Select a topic that will be engaging and require the development of an authentic, problem-based project by your participants. In an Ottawa Online course, announcements are text based and posted by the instructor on a weekly basis. Some studies have shown that students in online courses tend to feel a disconnect with their instructor, since most of the materials are in written format and lack the personalized elements of a face to face course. Therefore, my training will instruct the faculty member on how to post a video based announcement in their course. The topic will be “How to record a video announcement and post it in your course”.

Population: For whom will you design your workshop? Adjunct faculty teaching at a bachelor/masters level online course, those who have limited technology skills.

Outcomes: What are the learning outcomes for your workshop? The learners will create a video announcement using their webcam and proprietary software. The learners will operate a webcam, record video, and upload weekly announcements to a learning management system.

Gap: What do you think your participants already know? What do you want them to learn? What is the gap? The participants come into the training knowing how to post announcements and the content that should be delineated to the students on a weekly basis. However, they may lack the technological skills for recording video using their webcams and the additional skill of uploading the video in the Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS). This training will bridge the gap and allow all instructors to be tech savvy in their courses.
